Jimena Velarde-Alvarez
⟢ b. 2001, Lima, Peru

Emerging from attention—to and over—time, Jimena’s work develops through a process of accumulation and return. Her paintings evolve gradually, often through the persistence with an image that allows it to begin to reveal itself. Through layers that accumulate over time, her practice traces what insists—what emerges, lingers, and returns, waiting to be seen. Drawing from personal memory, writing, everyday observations, and dreams, her work follows the echoes of time as they surface and recede.

Themes: Transience, presence, longing, distance, time, reflection, cycles, symbolism, echoes, memory

She received a BFA in Painting from Rhode Island School of Design

Based in Brooklyn, NY
